What's in a pound?
Movies: we all love them.  It takes longer for those people of my generation to give up the whole “I like to have the disc and the artwork” attitude, but I have long embraced the digital age with my music so movies was surely next to fall. My DVD collection has long been in the attic but I still love a good flick and with two great services on the market, video piracy is (fairly) long...

Virtualising
It’s been a while since I did some hard-core geeking…so let me explain what I’ve been up to. I run OS X as my system of choice; it just works.  I have become accustomed to the keyboard shortcuts over time, and it was drag and drop that first converted me to the ease os use of the MacOS.  I’ve been using it since Mac OS 8 and have rarely looked back. However, it’s...

Remembering...
…how to teach! Holidays aren’t always a break, especially not with two young children. There’s only so much Chuggington one can take! Anyway, renewed resolutions for this half term: 1. Stick to rehearsal schedule as much as possible. 2. Use Classdojo more. 3. Complete literature review and methodology sections for thesis, and start action research. Here’s hoping!

Testing tech knowledge
Well…here goes. I passed on my powerbook G4 about 3 years ago to a family member and last week, it finally gave up the ghost…or so I thought.  The monitor was black, the “chime” still happened but nothing else.  I took it away to work out what had happened, when said family member stated that they were going to get an iPad and could the files be transferred. A project!  I...

Up early only to find the clocks have gone back!
I always find that the day before term starts, I fire out of bed early.  Prep for the new term, working out what I am teaching, scouring schemes of learning (I should really know them…I wrote them, after all!) and collating to-do lists. There is an indispensable tool for organising, based on the theory of GTD: Getting Things Done.  Now, I’ve never read the book on GTD, but there are...

Jobs Biography
I am aware that I will only be blogging sporadically once I get into my thesis proper, so I have been taking advantage this week of some leisure reading, namely the Steve Jobs biography that was released on Tuesday. I am not sure how I feel about it…here is a man that I have held up as an icon for so long and whilst aware that he had a temper and a fierce reputation, I had no idea just how...

All things "i"
Well, seeing as I have been off the blogging trail for so long and this is the first one I have come back to rather than starting over (I think this is my second or third blog), there have been quite a few tech updates in my life. 1.  Home Mac of choice.  Working at my iBook (2002-2005) and my Powerbook (2005-2010) took its toll on my back in a way that my original Blueberry iMac (2000-2002)...

What blogging reveals...
It has been a long time since i have posted a blog post (bad sentence formation…*slap*) and the last one I posted reveals a lot about what has gone on since I last posted. I now have an iPhone, long after my raving about the iPod Touch…and Steve Jobs has passed away.  The “long live” seems so sad now.   I am also a year into my Masters in Education study at the University...

iPod Touch: so now I need an iPhone
Can’t get over just how easy the iPod Touch keyboard is to use. I am typing this now and am over the moon with the responsiveness and the predictive text. My wife and I have now settled on iPhones for each other for Christmas. All the money wasted on bad ‘phones for the last few years when we should have just bitten the bullet and paid that bit extra for an iPhone. Long live Steve...
